Lateral partner hiring decreased somewhat in October, with 55 moves reported, down from 71 in September. Still, the number of lateral moves over the first 10 months of 2021 is running 60 percent ahead of 2020 and 20 percent ahead of 2019.

Hiring from government agencies continues to be strong, with 16 of those hires reported in October. Only two moves were reported from in-house positions.

There were no group moves in October, but 11 firms did report multiple hires:

Nineteen of the 55 movers (34.5 percent) were women, but only nine (47.4 percent) joined as partners. That contrasted with 22 out of 36 men (61.1 percent) who joined their new firms as partners.

In terms of practice area, Litigation was the most active practice area, with 10 moves. Other active practice areas included Data Privacy (6), International Trade (5), White Collar/Investigations (4), Antitrust (3), and Banking/Finance (3).
