This is the latest update on lateral partner and counsel moves in the Washington, D.C. area. The data included in these reports is primarily derived from Firm Prospects LLC. For more details and analysis, including a list of laterals for the month, please contact Steve Nelson.

The lateral market in April was a bit more active than in March, as 58 partner and counsel moves were reported, up from 52 in March. The number of moves in April 2022 was very similar, as 57 moves were reported.

Only two group moves were reported in April—a two-partner Antitrust group that moved from Baker Botts to Clifford Chance, and three DC lawyers who joined Womble Bond Dickinson as part of the combination of Womble and the boutique firm Moyles IP.

Eight lawyers came from government positions, while four eight joined from in-house roles.

Eighteen of the 58 lawyers (31 percent) were women, with ten (55.6 percent) entering as partners. That compared to 70 percent of the 40 men who joined their new firms as partners.

Intellectual Property and Litigation were the leading practice areas represented, with eight moves apiece. Other active practice areas included:
