TMG’s monthly study of lateral moves in Texas revealed 20 partner and counsel moves in July 2023. Twelve of those moves occurred in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with 6 in Houston, and two in Austin. All 20 of the movers came from private practice.

Three group moves were reported—with two groups helping to open the Dallas office of Blank Rome—an M&A/Securities Group in Dallas from Block & McNeill and a Banking Group from Alston & Bird. The other group move involved two partners that joined Winston & Strawn from Weil Gotshal & Manges. Other firms reporting at least two lateral hires included:

  • Jackson Walker (Dallas, Houston)
  • Kirkland & Ellis (Houston, Austin)

Just two of the 20 lawyers (10%) were women, with both entering as partners. That compared to 14 of the 18 men who joined their new firms as partners.

  • Litigation (4)
  • Banking (3)
  • Intellectual Property (2)
  • ERISA (1)
  • Labor & Employment (1)
  • Real Estate (1)
