This is the latest update on lateral partner and counsel moves in Texas. Included are all moves at AmLaw 200 firms; data in these reports is primarily derived from Firm Prospects LLC. For more details and analysis, including a list of laterals for the month, please contact Saadia Sultan.


Lateral moves in Texas rose dramatically in January, as 55 partner an counsel moves were reported, up from 14 in December and 29 in November. This number is also up substantially from January 2024 when there were 31 moves reported.

One major transaction had a large impact in January were the 12 partners and counsels who joined the Austin office Butler Snow from the now-defunct Enoch Kever, including name partners Craig Enoch and Andrew Kever.

There were three other group moves in January. One was an Affordable Housing and Real Estate group that joined BakerHostetler from Locke Lord, right as the latter firm merged into Troutman Pepper Locke. The other two were a Bankruptcy and Litigation group that joined McGlinchey Stafford from Galloway, Johnson, Tompkins, Burr & Smith, and a White-Collar/Investigations group that joined Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton from Bradley Arant Boult Cummings.

Twenty-six of December’s moves occurred in the Austin Area, 16 in Dallas, 12 Houston, and one in San Antonio. Fifty of the moves came from other law firms, with four coming from in-house positions, and one coming from government.

Twenty-four of the lawyers (43.6%) were women, with 16 (66.7) percent entering as partners. That compared to 26 of the 31 men (83.9 percent) who joined their new firms as partners.

Litigation was the leading practice area represented in January, with 16 lawyers. Other practice areas included:
