This is the latest update on lateral partner and counsel moves in the Washington, D.C. area. The data included in these reports is primarily derived from Firm Prospects LLC. For more details and analysis, including a list of laterals for the month, please contact Steve Nelson.
Lateral hiring in DC ticked up in June, as 62 partner and counsel moves were reported, up from 60 in May. Last year, 66 moves were reported in June.
Only two government lawyers joined D.C.-area firms in June, following only three in May. As we have previously noted, hiring from government is likely to remain low until after this year’s election. Seven lawyers did move from in-house positions.
Only one group move was reported in June—a Construction and Government Contracts group that left the D.C. office of Carlton Fields for the Tysons office of Williams Mullen.
Other firms reported multiple hires included:
- Cooley
- Daignault Iver
- Dentons
- Dickinson Wright
- DLA Piper
- Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher
- Husch Blackwell
- Milbank
- Porter Wright Morris & Arthur
Twelve of the movers (19.4 percent) were women, with seven of those (58.3 percent) entering as partners. That compared to 41 of the 50 men (82.0 percent) who joined their new firms as partners.
Intellectual Property was the leading practice represented, with 8 movers. Other active practice areas included White Collar/Investigations (7), Litigation (5), Banking/Finance (4), Real Estate (3), Energy (3), Telecommunications (3), International Trade (3), Corporate (3), and Antitrust (3).
