This is the latest update on lateral partner and counsel moves in the Washington, D.C. area. The data included in these reports is primarily derived from Firm Prospects LLC. For more details and analysis, including a list of laterals for the month, please contact Steve Nelson.

Even though we are in the depths of summer, July turned out to be a good month for lateral hiring, as 73 moves were reported, up from 66 in June. Ironically, 73 moves were also reported in July 2022.

Four different lateral groups moved in July. Those were:

  • A three-partner International Trade Compliance group that joined Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld from Hughes, Hubbard & Reed.
  • A three-partner Antitrust group that joined Paul Hastings from Hunton Andrews Kurth.
  • A two-partner Securities Enforcement group that joined Winston & Strawn from Kirkland & Ellis.
  • A two-partner White Collar/Investigations group that joined Eversheds Sutherland from Brown Rudnick.

Other firms reporting multiple moves in July included:

Fourteen attorneys moved from government positions in July, up from eight in June. Eight lawyers moved from in-house positions.

Seventeen women were among the 73 moves (23.3 percent) were women, with 10 entering as partners 58.8 percent. That compared to78.6 percent of the 56 men who joined their new firms as partners.

Intellectual Property was the leading practice area represented, with 10 moves apiece. Other active practice areas included:
