The pace of lateral moves dipped slightly in October, as 61 partner and counsel moves were reported, down from 70 in September. By comparison, there were 55 moves reported in October 2021.
Government moves continued to be strong with 12 moves, although down from a 2022 high of 20 in September. Three officials in the White House moved to private practice, as well as three lawyers from the Securities & Exchange Commission.
Only one group move was reported in October. That was a five-lawyer Investment Management group that left Hirschler Fleischer to join the Washington, DC and Richmond offices of Reed Smith. Other firms reporting multiple moves were:

Nineteen of the 61 lawyers (31.2 percent) were women, with 52.6 percent joining their new firms as partners. That compares to 76.2 percent of the 42 men that entered their new firms as partner.
Intellectual Property was the most active practice area, with nine moves. Other active practice areas were Litigation (8 moves), White Collar/Investigations (5), Energy (5), Investment Management (5), Tax (4), and Data Protection/Privacy (4).
