Lyles believes strongly in civic engagement, having served on more than a dozen nonprofit boards and advisory councils. Numerous organizations have recognized him for his commitment to the Washington region. Among the honors are Leadership Washington’s Volunteer of the Year, the Leader of the Year Award from The Greater Washington Board of Trade, and selection as a Washingtonian of the Year by Washingtonian magazine and to Washington Business Journal’s Power 100. He is a past president of Leadership Greater Washington.

Established in 1986, Leadership Greater Washington was constructed by a group of regional leaders and three committed organizations: The Greater Washington Board of Trade, The Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation and The Junior League of Washington. Modeling Leadership Greater Washington after other community leadership organizations, its founders invested personal and professional resources to fulfill their vision of an organization that would foster communication and cooperation among the area’s established leaders.
