TMG’s monthly study of lateral moves in Texas revealed 24 partner and counsel moves in October 2023. Thirteen of those moves occurred in Houston, with 9 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and two in Austin. All 24 of the movers came from private practice.
Six separate firms reported multiple moves during the month and three of these moves were group moves—a Trusts and Estates Group in Dallas which joined Husch Blackwell from Norris & Weber; a Litigation Group in Dallas which joined Husch Blackwell from the now-defunct Hedrick Kring Bailey; and a Litigation Group in Houston which joined Spencer Fane from that same firm.
Seven of the 24 lawyers (38.8.%) were women, with two entering as partners. That compared to 12 of the 17 men who joined their new firms as partners.
Corporate was the leading practice area represented, with 6 practitioners. Other practice areas included:
