TMG’s initial monthly study of lateral moves in Texas revealed 35 partner and counsel moves in January 2023. Eighteen of those moves occurred in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with 15 in Houston, and two in Austin. Twenty seven of the movers came from private practice, with four coming out of government, and four from in-house positions.
Nine separate firms reported multiple moves during the month. One group move was reported—a Litigation group in Houston that joined White & Case from Bracewell. Other firms reporting at least two lateral hires included:

- Clark Hill (Dallas)
- Dykema Gossett (Dallas)
- Husch Blackwell (Austin, Dallas, Houston)
- Jackson Walker (Dallas, Fort Worth)
- Norton Rose Fulbright (Houston)
- Winstead (Dallas, Fort Worth)
Ten of the 35 lawyers (28.6 percent) were women, with seven entering as partners. That compared to 18 of the 25 men who joined their new firms as partners.
Litigation was the leading practice area represented, with 11 practitioners. Other active practice areas included:
