After a banner month in January where 83 moves were reported, lateral partner movement leveled off in February, with 66 transitions. That number was also down from February 2021, when 79 moves were reported.
Four groups moved in February. Those included a four-lawyer telecommunications group that joined Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough from Kelley Drye & Warren; a financial services litigation and fintech group that joined Paul Hastings from O’Melveny & Myers; an antitrust group that joined Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner; and a two-partner IP boutique that opened the D.C. office for Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch. Other firms reporting multiple moves in January included:

There was a fairly steep decline in hiring from the government, as only six lawyers entered private practice from government positions, down from 16 in January. Six lawyers also moved from in-house positions.
Twenty six of the 66 movers (39.4 percent) were women. Unlike previous months, there was virtually no difference in the percentage of men or women entering their new firms as partners.
Intellectual Property was the leading practice overall, with 9 moves, followed by Antitrust (8 moves), Banking/Finance (7 moves), Corporate (5), White Cllar/Investigations (5 Telecommunications (5), and Litigation (5).
