Lateral partner hiring increased somewhat in November, with 67 moves reported, up from 55 in October. That number is in line with the average for 2021, as we have reported an average of just under 66 per month.
November was a particularly active month for group moves, as five practice groups changed firms. Those included a four-partner health care group that moved from Baker Donelson to Bass Berry & Sims; a three-partner tax group that moved from Morgan Lewis to Gibson Dunn & Crutcher; a three-partner IP group that moved from Morris, Manning & Martin to Rimon Law, a two-lawyer IP group that moved from Butzel Long to Taft Stettinius & Hollister, and a two-partner energy group that moved from Perkins Coie to Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. Other law firms reporting multiple hires were:
- Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft
- Cozen O’Connor
- Debevoise & Plimpton
- Goodwin Procter
- O’Melveny & Myers
- Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe
Twenty-three of the 67 movers (34.3 percent) were women, but unlike most of the previous months this year, the percentage entering as partners (60.8 percent), was just slightly lower than the percentage of men who joined their new firms as partners.
Litigation was the most active practice area, with 11 moves in November. Other active practice areas included: Intellectual Property (8 moves), Corporate (6), Health Care (6), Tax (5), Antitrust (4), and Banking (4).
